Artist Statement

Sabine Kühner is a German artist best known for her abstract figurative paintings. Her works encourage the viewer to decipher the visions hidden in them for themselves. In a time of ubiquitous overstimulation and losing oneself, her paintings lead the viewer to their own aliveness and an awareness of what life is all about.
She is influenced by formative life events and a decades-long exploration of the themes of color, form, and togetherness in relationships.

"Becoming an artist for me wasn’t a choice—it felt like a calling that emerged from the circumstances of my childhood. Growing up, I faced challenging situations that often felt overwhelming. Art became my refuge, a space where I could channel emotions that were too difficult to express otherwise. Above all, my fascination with color became my sanctuary. I've always seen color not just as a visual element but as something profoundly healing. Colors have the power to evoke emotions, shift perspectives, and create harmony in chaos. For me, they became a language of resilience, a way to transform pain into beauty and hope. Art, in this sense, is more than an expression—it's a process of healing and self-discovery. Through it, I've not only found my voice but also a means to connect with others on a deeply emotional level."

Her artistic practice uses a language of expressive gesture and color in the style of abstract expressionism and color painting. In doing so, she explores the limits of what is possible on canvas, reflecting the sometimes exuberant diversity of our world. The paintings at times contain oddities and are often ambiguous, leaving much room for interpretation and examination. Thus, they invite you to get involved, to bring to the surface in an emotional way the deeply intrinsic in man.
Bio

Born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Sabine is a fine artist and painter whose work is about colors in abstract, landscapes and the expression in human faces. Her fascination with art began as a small child and she was largely self-taught until she became family manager. Stays were Michigan USA, Frankfurt, GER, Gothenburg, SWE and Munich, GER. Former life events challenged her to delve into religion and spirituality and she worked as yoga teacher, relaxation therapist and systemic coach.

In 2001 at the age of 40 she began taking workshops and classes in painting to further train her hand and eye for composition and use of different media. In 2010 she opened her own artist studio near Munich and studied with well known artists such as Stephan Fritsch, Ingrid Floss, Jerry Zeniuk and Markus Lüpertz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolbermoor where she finished her Master in 2019.
